Garden Club holds first meeting of 2026-27 year

Members of Wesson Garden Club met at the American Legion Prime 79 on Tuesday, August 11.  Those in attendance were Teri Bath, Sherri Carty, Sonya Cowen, Cherry Head, Debbie Hoaglin, June Owens, Jennifer Peets, Joy Phillips, Debbie Smith, Lisa Smith, Dixie Thornton and Krisi Watts.  Sherri Carty, Debbie Hoaglin and Lisa Smith served as the meeting’s hostesses.  


President Sherri Carty called the meeting to order and opened with an inspirational quote. The Collect and Pledge of Allegiance were recited. Members were welcomed to the first meeting of the 2026-27 year, and the yearbook was reviewed and distributed. Jean Ricks gave the tip of the month. Sonya Cowen read a-thank-you note to the group for helping with her 80th birthday party. 


The previous minutes were approved and the treasurer’s report distributed.  Lisa Smith gave the Butterbean report and announced the programs planned for the upcoming year. The club plans to have a float in this year’s Christmas parade with a Grinch theme. The mum sale fundraiser is underway, and mums will arrive at the City Park Pavilion on September 18, 2026. 


The meeting was adjourned with prayer.


WGC is a member of The Garden Clubs of Mississippi, Inc., National Garden Clubs, Inc., Deep South Garden Clubs, Inc., and the Natchez Trace District GCM.
