Mimi’s Musings: Back to School

It’s back to school time! I know many parents are very happy because their kids are driving them crazy. By all means, let’s send them back to school, and let the teachers deal with their attitudes.

I could never be a teacher. Teachers have so much to deal with that has nothing to do with teaching. You know, you see them working at the ballgames, standing outside in the rain putting the precious kids in the car after school. They always have that smile and say “see you tomorrow,” when they are probably thinking “GET IN THE DANG CAR!!”

Many parents struggle with the financial strain of back to school. Children need new clothes, backpacks and pencils; the list goes on and on!

I remember when my girls needed a certain kind of lined paper, and NOTHING else would do. I searched all over the tri-county area. This was before online shopping and cell phones and everything that makes our lives so much easier now. Today you just log in, order it and it will be delivered to your house. What??!!

I heard one school has everything listed on Amazon, and it will be delivered to your school! Wow, that takes care of back-to-school night, when it takes three to four people to carry all the school supplies to the classroom. That night is always mass chaos. It looks like move-in day for college.

Don’t get me started about pick-up line. I have posted on social media many times about scoring a great place in line or losing at life and being by the cemetery. Nothing screams winning better than being first in line. However, you must take lunch and a good book to make this happen.

But, seriously, the thing I dread most about back to school is the kids who don’t know danger yet. They dart in and out of cars and cross streets, and I’m always scared one will be hit.

Please slow down, watch for the children and thank a teacher.
