Georgia Pacific in Monticello has renewed its long-time partnership with Copiah-Lincoln Community College’s underwater robotics engineering team, the Seawolves, with a $5,000 donation to the program.
“We appreciate Georgia Pacific for its long-time commitment to our award-winning team,” said Carey Williamson, the Seawolves mentor. “The Seawolves program, in its twelfth year, helps prepare students for their future career by giving them a real-world challenge that pushes their education and abilities to their limits. Many Co-Lin graduates have found successful careers based on skills obtained through the Seawolves program.”
The Seawolves is the state's only community college competitive robotics team. It was created to integrate students from Co-Lin’s academic and career-technical schools. Each year, the team competes in an international underwater ROV (Remote Operated Vehicle) competition which has allowed the team to travel across the country and to Canada, where it placed fourth in the world.
