The Mountain and the Mustard Seed
By Misty Strieff Prine

You know that game where you put your forehead on a bat and go round and round and round and then try to walk in a certain direction? You get so dizzy and out of sorts that you stumble and fall. Well, that’s how last week felt to me. Missing a week of work and school the week before and trying to play catch up leaves you feeling the same way as the bat scenario above. Lord have mercy on my soul, this Mama is tired! It’ll take me a month of Sunday’s to not feel so…scattered.
I’m reminded not only of a song that helps me through times like these but also a Bible verse. First, I want to share with you the lyrics to one of my favorite songs that has come out recently. The artist’s name is Lauren Daigle and the song is “Hold On To Me.” The lyrics speak right to my heart every time I hear them and I always hear it just the time I need to. I want to share those with you today. They are as follows: “When the best of me is barely breathin'. When I'm not somebody I believe in, hold on to me. When I miss the light the night has stolen. When I'm slammin' all the doors You've opened, hold on to me, hold on to me. Hold on to me when it's too dark to see You. When I am sure I have reached the end. Hold on to me when I forget I need You. When I let go, hold me again. When I don't feel like I'm worth defending. When I'm tired of all my pretending. Hold on to me. When I start to break in desperation underneath the weight of expectation, hold on to me, hold on to me. I could rest here in Your arms forever. 'Cause I know nobody loves me better, hold on to me, hold on to me.” Isn’t that beautiful and does it hit you as close to home as it does me? I’m also reminded of one of my favorite Bible verses, Isaiah 40:28-31 which says, “Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
I say all of that to say this. It is easy to get bogged down and overwhelmed in life. In those moments, when you feel as though the walls are closing in, just remember to pray for God to hold on to you a little tighter. He will. Also, He knew long before we were weary that we were going to be. Remember to find your hope in the Lord and He will renew your strength! He made a promise and we serve a God that isn’t in the business of breaking promises!
