The Wesson Cobras continued their unbeaten season Friday night, shutting out Amite County 9-0 to improve to 8-0 and hand the Trojans their first loss of the season.

Wesson’s defense delivered when it mattered, keeping Amite County off the scoreboard and helping the Cobras extend their winning streak to eight games. The defensive effort was especially important in a contest that produced Wesson’s lowest offensive point total of the season.

Quarterback Wesley Loy completed 8 of 16 passes for 101 yards to lead the passing attack. Laiken Thomas was his top receiving target, finishing with 54 receiving yards.

On the ground, BP Robbins rushed for 65 yards and scored a touchdown to help provide the points Wesson needed to secure the victory.

The win continued a strong run for the Cobras, who had also defeated Loyd Star 40-6, Enterprise 47-6 and Lawrence County 34-0 in their previous games. The victory over Amite County marked another shutout for a Wesson team that has combined offensive production with a defense capable of limiting opponents.

Amite County entered the matchup undefeated at 6-0 but was unable to score against the Cobras, dropping to 6-1.

Wesson will look to keep its perfect record intact Friday, Oct. 23, when it travels to face Wilkinson County. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

With the regular season approaching its final stretch, the Cobras will aim to maintain their momentum and strengthen their position as they pursue a successful finish in Region 7-2A.
