Wesson shuts out Lumberton, improves to 4-0

The Wesson Cobras remained unbeaten Thursday night with a 26-0 shutout of the Lumberton Panthers on the road, improving to 4-0 on the season.

Wesson’s defense turned in another dominant performance, holding Lumberton scoreless throughout the game. The shutout was the Cobras’ second of the season and continued a strong start for a Wesson team that has allowed just 28 points through its first four games.

The matchup favored Wesson entering Thursday night. In MaxPreps’ Mississippi football rankings, the Cobras were ranked No. 102 in the state, while Lumberton was ranked No. 212. The difference in the rankings pointed to Wesson being the expected favorite, but the Cobras still had to take care of business on the road.

Wesson opened the season with a 41-0 shutout of Bogue Chitto before defeating North Pike 29-14 and Franklin County 15-14. The Cobras have now scored 111 points while allowing just 28 through four games.

The victory gives Wesson four consecutive wins to begin the 2026 season and keeps the Cobras undefeated heading into the final week of September.

Wesson will return home Friday, Sept. 25, to face Lawrence County. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

The Cobras will look to carry their early-season momentum into the Lawrence County matchup before beginning district play in October.
