Young Woman Killed in Hazlehurst Two-Vehicle Accident

The Mississippi Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation into a deadly crash that occurred Monday afternoon in Copiah County.

According to MHP, the collision happened around 3:01 p.m. on Interstate 55 near Hazlehurst and involved two northbound vehicles. A 2022 Mack tractor-trailer driven by 62-year-old Charles Ousley of Durant struck a 2009 Nissan Altima driven by 20-year-old X’Zavion Howard of Greenwood.

An 18-year-old passenger in the Nissan, identified as Francesca Doss of Fayette, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Howard was airlifted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson with serious injuries.

Ousley, the driver of the tractor-trailer, was not injured.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol continues to investigate the cause of the crash.
