Wesson American Legion Leads Ceremony

Shop Local Project

Wesson American Legion Post 79 members, including (left to right) David Fore, Sr., Post 79 Commander; Deborah Fielder, American Legion Mississippi Department Adjutant; Bobby Thornton, Post 79 Adjutant, helped lead a ceremony on National Prisoner of War/Missing in Action Day last month at Wesson Cemetery that dedicated a memorial for two World War II Wesson POWs. The memorial honors Brigadier General Luther Rea Stevens and wife, Lula Turnbow Stevens, who served in the Philippines. General Steven was captured and held prisoner in China and his wife was held in a POW camp for civilians in the Philippines. They were released in 1945.
