Copiah-Lincoln Community College English instructor Priscilla “Penny” Hartley of Hazlehurst was recently recognized as the college’s 2025 Mississippi Humanities Council Teacher of the Year.
As part of her recognition, Hartley delivered a presentation entitled “Me, Myself, and AI (Artificial Intelligence)” on February 5, highlighting the role that AI has in higher education. She will receive her award from the Mississippi Humanities Council at its annual Public Humanities Awards ceremony to be held on March 28 in Jackson.
Hartley holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and French from Delta State University, a Master of Arts in English from the University of Alabama, and a Master of Education in school counseling from the University of South Alabama. She is currently pursuing a Doctor of Education (Ed. D.) at Southern Arkansas University. She was named Co-Lin’s Outstanding Academic Instructor for the Wesson Campus in 2024. She attends Beauregard Community Church and is a life member of Junior Auxiliary of Copiah County. She and her husband, Scott, have two children, Alexis and Bryce.
The Mississippi Humanities Council, funded by Congress through the National Endowment for the Humanities, provides public programs in traditional liberal arts disciplines to serve nonprofit groups in Mississippi and pays tribute annually to outstanding faculty in traditional humanities fields at each of Mississippi’s institutions of higher learning.
